Giveaway: 7th Heaven by James Patterson

Description (taken from here):

A terrible fire in a wealthy suburban home leaves a married couple dead and Detective Lindsay Boxer and her partner Rich Conklin searching for clues. And after California's golden boy, Michael Campion has been missing for a month, there finally seems to be a lead in his case--a very devastating lead.

As fire after fire consume couples in wealthy, comfortable homes, Lindsay and the Murder Club must race to find the arsonists responsible and get to the bottom of Michael Campion's disappearance. But suddenly the fires are raging too close to home.

Frightened for her life and torn between two men, Lindsay must find a way to solve the most daunting dilemmas she's ever faced--at work and at home.

Reading Group Guide

1. Arson is a very curious crime to commit. Why do you think someone would be drawn to this crime? Do you believe in Freud’s theory as stated in the book?

2. In your opinion, would Junie’s occupation affect her credibility in the courtroom? Should it? For example, is a lawyer or doctor a more credible defendant/witness than a garbage collector?

3. In trying Junie Moon, Yuki tried to use public sympathy for Michael Campion to turn the jury against the defendant. What do you think of that type of tactic in a trial setting?

4. Conklin suspects Chuck Hanni, the arson investigator, for actually committing the arson crimes in the book. Why do you think serial murderers would choose professions close to their crimes?

5. Junie Moon’s intelligence and self esteem are brought up by the defense as reasons why she could have given a false confession. Do you think everyone who confesses is guilty? Do you believe interrogations should be taped?

6. In Junie Moon’s trial, much of the prosecution’s case is based on spoken testimony. What is your opinion on convicting someone for murder without physical evidence, but compelling testimony?

7. The Moluccan cockatoo Peaches, formerly known as Horndog, was described as depressed when it was living in the pet store. Do you think it is possible for animals to get depressed or have psychological problems like people?

8. Joe voices his worry that Lindsay’s relationship with Rich has become more intimate than the typical office relationship. Do you think Lindsay’s relationship with Rich could lead to something inadvertently? Should she request a change of partner out of respect for her relationship with Joe? Who do you think is better suited to Lindsay?

9. Connor Campion was very controlling of Michael because he feared for his son’s life. How can modern parents set appropriate boundaries with their children in an age where kids have access to cell phones, computers and other devices that allow them to live lives fairly independent of their parents?

10. As prosecutor it is Yuki’s right to believe the Junie is guilty and her duty to try her as such. There is a moral dilemma if a prosecutor feels that a defendant could be innocent or if a defense lawyer feels their client may be guilty. How do you think defense lawyers and prosecutors reconcile these conflicts?

In The Bedroom

I'm in desperate need of new bedroom furniture. It has been years since I purchased anything new and I think it's about time to change all that. I'll more than likely purchase some modern bedroom furniture in either black or cherry wood. The only problem I have with black furniture is that it gets dusty so fast. Cherry wood is really pretty and durable, so maybe we'll go with that. I really like sleigh beds, so that's one idea. I also want an armoire because I think they are gorgeous. A night stand is a must have for me because I always read before I go to sleep and then lay my book on it. Plus, I will need a place to put a reading lamp.

I could use some new bedding too. After my husband and I got married, I bought a bed-in-a-bag set but when Reese was a puppy, she put a couple of holes in it. I sewed them back up but it doesn't look very pretty. We want to get another puppy though, so I might hold off on a new comforter until after we get Reese's brother or sister trained. If I find a good deal, I may just go for it. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Under The Sea

I love the ocean. I'm a fan of how it makes me feel, how pretty it is, and most of all, how many beautiful creatures live under the sea. Dolphins are one of the most beautiful, pure creatures I have ever seen. We went to Sea World when I was four or five and I can still remember how it felt to watch the dolphins swim. Then, when I was seventeen, I went on a vacation with my friends family and I was able to see them from the pier. I felt an overwhelming calm and for that brief moment, everything seemed right in the world. It's amazing the effect some animals can have on you.

I really want to check out cruisers activities in Cozumel and swim with dolphins. I love the way they look and how the jump out of the water and then dive back in. They are so gorgeous and I would love the chance to see one face to face. I'm definitely going to have to do this on our next vacation. The only problem is, I'll probably want to stay and live in the water with them. I'll just have to make sure I stay away from jellyfish and sharks.

Save! Save! Save!

I'm addicted to saving money. I love coupons and sales. Anytime that I am looking for a particular product, I do a lot of research and try to find the best overall deal. Sometimes, that works out to be the cheaper product but sometimes it's actually cheaper to purchase name brands. I take a lot of different things into account. Price is important, of course, but so is convenience. From huge purchases, like a car, to small purchases, such as toilet paper, you can find great deals.

You can even order sold out event tickets online and save some cash. Just think about all the money you could save by only buying products that you have a coupon for. Even if it's just fifty cents here and two dollars here, every little bit can add up pretty quickly. Taking a few extra minutes out of your day and visiting an online coupon website will pay off in the end, I'm sure of it. Then, you can take the money you saved and buy yourself a little something pretty or save it for a much needed vacation. One other really great idea is to put it in a college fund for your child. Just think about how much you could save over the next eighteen years...

Review: Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy by Abigail Reynolds

Most of the people that I know who are obsessed with historical romance novels, adore Jane Austen. Yes, I am one of these people. This book answers the question that has plagued myself and readers like me. What could-have-been between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy if she had not refused his proposal?

This was an amazing read that explores the romantic possibilities between two unforgettable characters. I found it thought-provoking and extremely sensual.

Lounging On A Hammock

Relaxing outside is a gift. Breathing the fresh air, looking up at the bright blue sky, is a great way to spend a few hours. The only thing that could make it better is watching Reese run around the yard and lounge on an outdoor hammocks with a good book. Soaking up some rays and swinging back and forth turning page after page is like a vacation but not having to pack or deal with traffic to get there.

One year, my family and our friends family took a trip to Gatlinburg and stayed in a chalet. It was great because not only did we get to spend some quality time with our parents, we also got to spend time with our best friends. Sitting in the jacuzzi at night while our parents were cooking was a fond memory that I will hold in my heart forever. I remember one day, we went outside and my dad decided that he was going to use one of the rope hammocks. He went to lay down and fell flat on his face in the grass. His second attempt was the same as the first. After the third try, he gave up. Now every time I see a hammock, I think about that wonderful vacation and the laugh we all shared at my dad's expense. I think every great family trip needs at least one moment that was "fall off your seat" funny. That's how you know it was a good getaway.

The first time I fell in love with hammocks was as a kid. I was always terrified that I would end up with my face in the dirt, like dad but I think that added a certain thrill to it. I'm thinking that the the hammock chairs might actually be a better idea for myself and my dad. It might be a little safer and I really like to have different options when I go outdoors. Sometimes I'm in the mood to sit and chat and other times, I want to curl up and just enjoy the day all by myself. I would like to have a choice as to how to spend my time, sitting or laying.

Review: Organic Cotton

If you ask me, there is a huge difference between cotton and organic cotton. Not only do I think it's softer, I also think that it is more durable. I use cotton balls to clean Reese's ear and the old cotton balls that I was using would come apart and I'd end up having to use six or seven of them in each ear. The Organic Cotton balls that I received from Tropical Traditions were amazing! They didn't try to pull apart and I didn't end up sticking my finger straight through them. This made cleaning her ears a lot easier and faster than normal.

Cotton rounds are great for removing makeup and using toner. Again, I found that the organic cotton was a lot softer and more durable than the old cotton balls I used to use.

I use q-tips after every shower and to spice up my eye makeup. My husband even noticed that the swabs were softer than the ones we normally use.

Giveaway: Hollywood Moon by Joseph Wambaugh Audio Book

Full Description (taken from here):
There's a saying at Hollywood station that the full moon brings out the beast--rather than the best--in the precinct's citizens. One moonlit night, LAPD veteran Dana Vaughn and "Hollywood" Nate Weiss, a struggling-actor-turned cop, get a call about a young man who's been attacking women. Meanwhile, two surfer cops known as Flotsam and Jetsam keep bumping into an odd, suspicious duo--a smooth-talking player in dreads and a crazy-eyed, tattooed biker. No one suspects that all three dubious characters might be involved in something bigger, more high-tech, and much more illegal. After a dizzying series of twists, turns, and chases, the cops will find they've stumbled upon a complex web of crime where even the criminals can't be sure who's conning whom.

Wambaugh once again masterfully gets inside the hearts and minds of the cops whose jobs have them constantly on the brink of danger. By turns heart-wrenching, exhilarating, and laugh-out-loud funny, Hollywood Moon is his most thrilling and deeply affecting ride yet through the singular streets of LA.

Review: My Soul To Save by Rachel Vincent

Kaylee is a screamer. When she screams, it means that someone has met death. When Eden, a young idol, dies onstage and she doesn't scream, she finds out that she doesn't always have a warning when someone's life is about to end. She doesn't get clued in when the person dying is soulless.

Kaylee has the weight of the world on her shoulders. So many of her peers are trading their souls but have no idea what is in store for them down the line. She is determined to help these confused teens and in the process, save as many souls as she can, even if it puts her own life in danger.

I have one very important thing to say about Kaylee: she kicks some major ass! She's my hero.

Troubled Sight

As a book lover, I know how important sight can be to your daily life. Reading is one of my favorite things to do and if that was taken away from me, I would be devastated. I am so thankful that there are eyeglasses available to help people who have trouble seeing. Sometimes while reading a small paperback, I have trouble reading the words because the font is like a 5. I'm exaggerating a little, but that's how it seems when I'm reading.

If it weren't for prescription glasses, I would probably go insane. I'm the type of person that brings a book with me everywhere I go, almost like a security blanket. I don't know why, but it calms me to know that a good book is ready to be read, should the need arise. If I couldn't pick up a book and read whenever the mood struck, I would panic.

Glasses are a lifesaver to most of the people I know. The world is a beautiful place and I wish that everyone could enjoy it. Plus, you can find super-cute eyeglass frames that compliment your face. Who wouldn't want a sophisticated accessory that helps you see?

Giveaway: The Imperial Cruise by James Bradley Audio Book

Full Description (taken from here):
In 1905 President Teddy Roosevelt dispatched Secretary of War William Taft, his gun-toting daughter Alice and a gaggle of congressmen on a mission to Japan, the Philippines, China, and Korea. There, they would quietly forge a series of agreements that divided up Asia. At the time, Roosevelt was bully-confident about America's future on the continent. But these secret pacts lit the fuse that would-decades later-result in a number of devastating wars: WWII, the Korean War, the communist revolution in China.
One hundred years later, James Bradley retraces that epic voyage and discovers the remarkable truth about America's vast imperial past-and its world-shaking consequences. Full of fascinating characters and brilliantly told, THE IMPERIAL CRUISE will forever reshape the way we understand U.S. history

Review: Fugitive by Cheryl Brooks

Manx has strong sexual powers thanks to a feline gene. The Nedwuts want him dead and have forced him to live in hiding as a fugitive. He meets Drusilla and the sparks start flying. This wasn't exactly the love of wildlife she thought she would find. He wants nothing more than to make her his lover. With assassins on their heels, they're having to fight to make it out alive, all while trying to dowse the flames burning from within.

Talk about hot, animal lovin'! This book got so hot I had to rinse off my hands with some cold water! Every now and then I crave a steamy book that will take me to another world, and this is that kind of book.

Review & Giveaway: Dear John by Nicholas Sparks Audiobook

John enlists in the Army and meets Savannah while on leave. She is working with Habitat for Humanity and he captures her admiration after saving her drowning purse. They are complete opposites. He has one-night stands, she's saving herself. He drinks, she doesn't. None of that matters, they have fallen deeply in love.

When John returns to duty, Suzanne misses him like crazy. Her friend Tim is desperate to have her for himself. When John re-enlists after the 9/11 attack, Tim might just get his wish.

Nicholas is a natural-born romance writer. His characters always seem to have the perfect amount of chemistry. My husband was in the Army after 9/11 and I could really really relate to Savannah.

The World Wide Web

One of my favorite things about the internet, is being able to look up virtually anything. Anything that pops into your mind can be typed into a search engine and most of the time, you are able to find the answers you seek. My thirst for knowledge has been quenched since the internet came along. I'm always thinking about something and I can't stand it when I don't know the answer. What is the meaning of life? How do you learn Business Accounting, so you can do it yourself rather than paying some firm a huge sum of money? How do you change a tire? These topics and much more can be found on the internet. There are tons of articles on how to do certain things and there are articles that are so informative that all of your questions about a certain topic may be answered. My friends and I will be sitting around and something will pop into one of our heads and we'll start discussing it. Sometimes, one of us knows enough to answer the question, but just as often, we have to look it up. It's kind of fun doing a bit of research when the topic interests you.

Review: My Dearest Mr. Darcy by Sharon Lathan

Elizabeth, Mistress of Pemberley, and her husband Darcy are so happy to be together. Their life as man and wife could not be happier. When they have their first child, they find that their love for each other grows even more. Taking trips and celebrating life together, these two have a precious love that readers everywhere will envy.

I used to hate romance books. I thought that I just wasn't a fan of the mooshy stuff, but come to find out, I hated them because I wanted a love like that and I was convinced that that was only possible in fiction. Then, I got together with my husband and I learned that true love isn't fiction and that it is the best emotion in the universe. Now, with my blindness removed, I am able to fully enjoy books like this one.

Small Business

I don't know about you, but I love small businesses. I enjoy walking into a place and having the workers know my name and what it is that I like. There is a little book store about fifteen minutes from where I live and the lady behind the desk knows my face before I even make it through the door. This is saying a lot because my hair is constantly changing length and color. I had it down to my butt and then donated it to locks of love and colored it bright red. She still knew me though. I walk in and she's already pulling some books off the shelves for me. We're kindred spirits, we both love paranormal romance, urban fantasy and mysteries.

It's a great feeling to walk into a store that has products you absolutely love and have a staff that understands you through and through. For the most part, all of the small businesses that I visit seem to have a knack for hiring. They always seem to have the nicest people working there as a part time CFO. Big businesses may be able to offer lower prices, but there are some things that I would rather pay a little more and get great service. Like books, for example.

Address Plaques

I don't want my home to look like every other house on the street. I want it to stand out and say, "this is my home and it expresses who I am." When I enter a neighborhood and all of the homes look exactly alike, it creeps me out. I'm not quite sure why but I think it has to do with falling into a fad and that's something that I have never wanted to do. One of my favorite ways to spruce up a lawn is with address plaques. There are so many different designs and styles that there is bound to be one that speaks to you. For the most part, I have a particular piece in mind that I want and once I find it, I have to have it.

My parents have an address plaque that is a little to plain for my taste. I prefer something a little more creative. This is probably because I've never been one to blend into the crowd. People who know me, know that I want to be different and I try to show it in every way that I can. Most of the apartment buildings that have an address plaque are also pretty dull for my taste.. I want something colorful and bold yet easy to read. I also adore the little accents on some of the plaques. I think I'd like to have angels on mine or maybe a symbol of some kind.

The lawn address plaques are really nice. I think it's a really good idea to have one of these if your mailbox is attached to your house. When I print off driving directions and I'm on my way to somewhere new, I hate when it is not clear what the number of the house is. Sometimes, I get so frustrated that I decide just to forget it and head back home. With the lawn plaque, I would know when I had reached my destination. This would help eliminate the stress on drivers who are delivering to your home or guests who would like to visit. What are your thoughts on this subject?

Car Hire

When you go on vacation, do you normally rent a car or hire someone to drive you around? Most of the time, we take our own car but we do sometimes consider renting a car. I think being able to hire a driver is an amazing thing, especially for me. If I were to travel outside the country, I would not want to drive myself around. Laws are different and signs are different. I would be way to nervous to get out on the road. I've never been outside of the United States but I would love to see the world. Best Car Hire would be perfect for me! I wouldn't have to worry about looking at a map, getting lost or feel uncomfortable behind the wheel. My husband would probably like to drive but I think that I would feel safer with someone who is more experienced with the area. I was in a car accident that wasn't fatal but it still messed me up. I hate to drive now and I'm always afraid that I will end up in another wreck. Having someone else drive might alleviate those fears and allow me to enjoy time away from home. I really could use a vacation.

Review & Giveaway: Hope For Animals And Their World by Jane Goodall Audio book

Jane Goodall is a scientist and one of my personal heroes. I absolutely adore animals and I want to do all I can to help endangered species. I have three dogs and I love them so much. I feel like they are my children and I can't imagine a life without them. If we humans aren't careful, we could end up losing a lot. There are so many things we can learn from different species and I hope it remains that way.

I found Jane's story to be incredibly honest and I'm really glad I was given a chance to review this audio book.

But The Fire Is So Delightful

Spending time with the people I love is very important to me. I love when all of us get together and spend the whole time laughing and having fun just being together. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold, clear or raining, we can always come up with something fun to do. We get together for holidays and birthdays and before we know it, time has flown by and left us behind.

My idea of the ultimate party would be sitting around an outdoor firepit with my friends and family on a cool night telling ghost stories and roasting some marshmallow's. We would, of course, also need some chocolate and graham crackers. I'm getting excited just thinking about this! It's been far to long since I've done anything like that.

I spend some time at a friend's campsite that was on the river and we would start the fire pit as soon as it got a little chilly. We sat in a circle around the fire pit and played a drinking game called "I've Never." It was so much fun and I can't wait to be able to do something like that again!

My sister and her husband had their reception in their backyard and they had a couple of fire pits lit and it was so beautiful! All of the light was from the fire and then there were candles lit and it was so romantic.

I don't know what it is about fire but I love it. I love the heat and the smell. Plus, it's nice to be able to be in the fresh, clean air, even when the temperature is somewhat low. We don't have a fire pit yet, but I'm hoping to get one soon. Then, I could sit outside whenever the mood struck, which probably be every night!
