Review: Barely Bewitched by Kimberly Frost

Tammy Jo's life has taken a 180 degree turn with no warning at all. Thanks to an unfortunate, unplanned zombie attack, she has gained the unwanted interest of the World Association of Magic. She desperately tries to talk some sense into Jordan, the man who has shown up with a letter stating that if she does not comply, she will be imprisoned or killed. Neither option sounds reasonable to Tammy Jo. She just wants to be a normal citizen. She can use some clumsy magic but she isn't interested in giving up her pastry chef title. How can she convince them that she is not cut out for this witch business? Or is Jordan right and with the correct training, Tammy Jo just might be a great addition to to the world of the paranormal?

This is an entertaining, laugh out loud read that shouldn't be missed by any paranormal lover.

Review: A Circle of Souls by Preetham Grandhi

A little girl has fallen victim to a sadistic maniac who takes her life. Leia Bines is the agent called in to help solve this brutal murder. She's hoping with all her might that this case will turn out different than the last one.

Dr. Gram has been called on to help a little girl, Naya, who may or may not be suicidal. Naya's parents are worried for her safety and want the best medical care possible for their child.

Naya and her drawing pad may be the only link to that can bring this tyrant to justice. Will they be able to stop catch this creep before it's too late or will this grizzly evil roam free forever?

Every once in a while, I am caught totally off guard by an author. I figured that A Circle of Souls would be a good book based on the synopsis and some reviews that I have read. I must admit that I was highly impressed with Preetham's writing and story telling talent. Don't get me wrong, I knew by the information available that this book would have the …

Blog Tour/Giveaway: Nurture Shock by Po Bronson & Ashley Merryman

Description (taken from here):

In a world of modern, involved, caring parents, why are so many kids aggressive and cruel? Where is intelligence hidden in the brain, and why does that matter? Why do cross-racial friendships decrease in schools that are more integrated? If 98% of kids think lying is morally wrong, then why do 98% of kids lie? What's the single most important thing that helps infants learn language?

NurtureShock is a groundbreaking collaboration between award-winning science journalists Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. They argue that when it comes to children, we've mistaken good intentions for good ideas. With impeccable storytelling and razor-sharp analysis, they demonstrate that many of modern society's strategies for nurturing children are in fact backfiring--because key twists in the science have been overlooked.

Nothing like a parenting manual, the authors' work is an insightful exploration of themes and issues that transcend children's (and adults…

The Good Ole Days

For my 17th birthday, I went on a family vacation with my best friend and her family. It was one of the best birthday's I've ever had. The only thing that could have made it more enjoyable, would have been if my parents were there. I loved getting up every morning and getting to swim in the ocean. It was the first time I had been to a Myrtle Beach Resort. It felt so great to be in the fresh air with the sun beating down on me. I did end up with a wicked sunburn though. It was a small price to pay for how good I looked and felt. I've been trying to talk my husband into taking a vacation and staying at one of the Myrtle Beach Resorts.

I want to reminisce and feel the way I felt when I was a teenager. I doubt that it would be exactly the same but I know that I would have a blast spending time on the beach with my hubby and of course, our baby, Reese (puppy). With all of the Myrtle Beach Accomodations, I think we could have the trip of a lifetime.

Review: Afterlife by Guy Smith

This is the tragic story of a man who was forced into the afterlife due to a car accident. He wasn't the only one who received the short end of the stick. His wife is in a coma and the doctors have saved a fetus that they didn't even know was growing inside of her. He never got the chance to be a father in life but he's determined to stay in the afterlife to watch his child grow up. He keeps hoping that his wife will wake up and go on to live a normal life. Well, as normal a life as possible unless you ignore her husband who refuses to leave her. He feels like it is his duty to make his wife's transition into the afterlife easier by waiting for her patiently.

I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks about the afterlife and what it may be like. I found this book to be extremely interesting and it gave me a lot to think about.

Review: Last Call by JD Seamus

Jimmie Collins is a man in the know. Thanks to his not so legal activities, he has a black book full of connections. He also has good reasons for running with the wrong crowd. His wife has MS and his daughter is mentally disabled. With all of the medicals bills and the cost of living, a legitimate income just won't do.

Jimmie has a secret. He's dying. Jimmie is a family man and wants to make all the necessary arrangements to make sure his wife and child are properly taken care of. When Jimmie's makeshift family of bar patrons and thugs finds out that Jimmie's fortune has been stolen, they set off to find the person responsible and make him pay.

This book is amazing. My heart went out to Jimmie within the first couple of chapters. He's a man who the law would say is a felon but who truly has a big heart and only wants the best for the people he loves. I think you should read this book. Now. Go get it. Hey, I'm talking to you. Go get this book. Y…

“Book Madness – Why Everyone Feels They Have a Book in Them”
One of the most frequent things I hear when I happen to confess to being a writer is generally, “I’ve always wanted to write. I have a great book in me.” No you don’t. If you did, it would be written.
I hear the “book in me drivel” a lot at book signings. Don’t get me wrong. I love the people part of the business and book signings is the people part but please, ask about the book and tell me what you like or dislike-or hell, even about the pony you are buying your kid. Or best, “Can I buy you a beer?” But please don’t cheapen writers worth by saying you can do as if it’s not one huge amount of work. How would you feel if I came on your job and said, “I’ve often thought about designing a small town water system.” Or, “I’ve often thought about how easy it is to be an air traffic controller.” Tell Chipper Jones about you waking up one day and deciding to go hit a ninety five mile an hour fastball. When he finishes laughing maybe…

Review: Seagate FreeAgent Go

I'm in love with the SeagateFreeAgent Go External Hard Drive. I'm really particular about the things that are important to me. I'm also anal retentive and a little OCD. Some may see this as a flaw but I see it as a blessing. I have back-ups for my back-ups because I know that anything can happen. I adore my family and love to look back on special moments that have been captured by camera. I not only have physical pictures, but I save them in iPhoto, Photobucket, on CD, on DVD and now on an external drive that I can take with me to family get togethers and share our past joys without having to give away my physical copies. My entire family is picture crazy so this is one of the best inventions I've ever come across.

Not only is it wonderful for pictures, it's also the perfect place to store your ebooks. I keep them on my computer until I'm done reading them but there are times that things just seem to disappear from my desktop. I don't know if mayb…

GIVEAWAY: The Gift Of An Ordinary Day by Katrina Kinison

Full Description (taken from here):

The Gift of an Ordinary Day is an intimate memoir of a family in transition-boys becoming teenagers, careers ending and new ones opening up, an attempt to find a deeper sense of place, and a slower pace, in a small New England town. It is a story of mid-life longings and discoveries, of lessons learned in the search for home and a new sense of purpose, and the bittersweet intensity of life with teenagers--holding on, letting go.

Poised on the threshold between family life as she's always known it and her older son's departure for college, Kenison is surprised to find that the times she treasures most are the ordinary, unremarkable moments of everyday life, the very moments that she once took for granted, or rushed right through without noticing at all.

The relationships, hopes, and dreams that Kenison illuminates will touch women's hearts, and her words will inspire mothers everywhere as they try to make peace with the inevitable changes in…

GIVEAWAY: Cult Insanity by Irene Spencer

Full Description (taken from here):

Life for Irene Spencer was a series of devastating disappointments and hardships. Irene's first book, Shattered Dreams, is the staggering chronicle of her struggle to provide for her children in abject poverty and feelings of abandonment each time her husband left to be with one of his other wives. Irene was raised to believe polygamy was the way of life necessary for her ticket to heaven.

The hard knocks of her environment were just the beginning of Irene's shocking tale. Insanity ran rampant in her husband's family and was the source of inconceivable events that unfolded throughout Irene's adult life. CULT INSANITY takes readers deeper into her story to uncover the outrageous behavior of her brother-in-law Ervil -- a self-proclaimed prophet who determined he was called to set the house of God in order -- and how he terrorized their colony. Claiming to be God's avenger and to have a license to kill in the name of God, Ervil ordere…

Review: There's More To Life Than A Corner Office by Lamar Smith

I'm always searching for good self-help books. I want to learn one new thing everyday, even if it's something as simple as a new word. I've had a thirst for learning for as long as I can remember and if anything, the feeling has became more potent with age. I'm constantly trying to figure out who I am and what I can do to make this world a better place. Sometimes it gets overwhelming and I feel like I'm being swallowed by this huge black hole. I want to do everything, help everyone and I get frustrated because that's impossible. I try to make sure I that I make a difference in any way I can. Whether it's picking up a lost dog and returning it to it's owners or smiling at someone who has beaten up by life. I've never believed that money equals happiness or that your job title defines who you are.

I consider myself very fortunate because I've never been a slave to the dollar. I've always known that having someone truly care about me …

Review & Giveaway: Lopsided by Meredith Norton

Meredith is trying to figure life out. She's a free spirit who is constantly following her whims. When she finally decides to settle down, she's in Paris with her husband and they have a child. Desperate for a change of scenery, Meredith and her baby boy fly to the US to spend time with her parents. While she's there, she pulls out her boob for her mother's inspection. Her mother's reaction scares Meredith into seeing a doctor. The good news is Meredith hasn't lost her sense of humor and allows you to ride shotgun on the story of her life.

This book is a really fun read. Meredith is an extremely likable person and I truly hope that she uses her writing talent to tell many more stories. If you have boobs, you should read this book. And this isn't a book that's just for the ladies. I actually knew a guy in his early twenties who passed away because of breast cancer.

GIVEAWAY: The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran

Description (taken from here):

In ancient Egypt, a forgotten princess must overcome her family’s past, and remake history.

The winds of change are blowing through Thebes. A devastating palace fire has killed the 18th dynasty’s royal family—all with the exception of Nefertari, niece of the reviled former queen Nefertiti. The girl’s deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. A relic of a previous reign, Nefertari is pushed aside, an unimportant princess left to run wild in the palace. But all of this changes when she is taken under the wing of pharaoh’s aunt, and brought to the Temple of Hathor where she is educated in a manner befitting a future queen.

Soon Nefertari catches the eye of the crown prince, and despite her family’s history, they fall in love and wish to marry. Yet all of Egypt opposes this union between the rising star of a new dynasty and the fading star of an old, heretical one. While political adversity sets the country on ed…

Review: Boys of the Bite: A Gay Vampire Anthology - Cecilia Tan

Vampires fascinate me. I don't know what it is about them, but I am drawn to them. They have captivated me for as long as I can remember. I can't exactly put my finger on why. Maybe it's genetics. My dad is as obsessed as me about vamps, weres, etc. Or maybe it's my attraction to the mysterious unknown. Whatever it is, my interest seems to grow with each passing day. Anywho, if I see or hear about a good vamp story, I have to have it.

The great thing about anthologies is that they give you a little taste of what the author is capable of. I can't tell you how many authors I got hooked on thanks to a short story they wrote.

I don't really know how I should review an anthology though... As you all know, I don't like giving away too much of a story because I feel like that ruins it. I love to be surprised so I never read a review with spoilers. I won't let my friends tell me about movies they've seen either. I don't want to know until…
