I Predict That There Will Be A Lot Of Books In My Future

I enjoy making my own Predictions and seeing how they pan out.  Whenever I watch an award show, I try to guess who will win.  Half the time I am right and the other half I am way off.  My husband and I kind of make it a game to see who chooses the correct winner most often.

I Predict that there will be a lot of books in my future.  Even though that's not really a fair prediction because I know for a fact that I will be doing a lot of reading until the day I die.  I'm so addicted to books and that is one thing that I will never apologize for.

Review & #Giveaway: Almost Everything by Tate Hallaway

Ever since her father banished the half-witch, half-vampire Ana Parker and vampire knight Elias from the court of the Northern vampires, Ana has been trying to live a normal life. But when the Prince of the Southern Region vampires informs Ana that they're on the brink of war and she accidentally offers up Elias as a peace offering, the princess knows that she's going to need some help to get out of this situation.

With Ana's boy drama meter hitting an all time high, summer in St. Paul is heating up for all the wrong reasons...

As I'm sure you all know, I am a sucker for vampire books!  I had a blast reading Almost Everything and I could not put it down.  I read it from cover to cover and was thrilled with both the plot and the main character, Ana.  Tate is a very talented writer who can entice readers instantly.  This is the perfect book for fans of the young adult and paranormal genres.

Looking Out

Almost everyone who knows me knows that I love to read.  My family used to read to me all the time and when I was two years old, I had memorized the majority of the books I had.  I even knew when to turn the pages.  There is something about holding a book in my hand that makes me feel like everything will be alright.

As I have aged, I have realized how important it is to be surrounded by beautiful things.  I'm not talking about making extravagant purchases to show off.  I'm talking about having a little piece of nature in view. I have been thinking about getting a couple of window boxes for a while now. Some beautiful flower boxes around my windows would be soothing.

What does reading and having a windowbox have to do with each other? Well, when I read, I normally take a pause in between chapters to reflect on what I have read. I normally end up focusing on something and it would be great to look at some beautiful daisies while thinking about the book in my hand.

For The Love Of Books #Giveaway: Moonlight in the Morning by Jude Deveraux

In an all-new trilogy set in blissful Edilean, Virginia, Jude Deveraux weaves together the tales of three young women, best friends since college, and the lives, loves, and dreams that await them.

For years, Kim’s cousin Tris—the town’s handsome and dedicated doctor—felt a deep connection to Kim’s college “sister” Jecca, though they had met only once before; now, Jecca is swept off her feet by this strong, sensitive man in a summer of sensual delights. But when long shadows announce Jecca’s return to “real life” and the big city, the lovers must decide: Can they survive the distance? Review: What Happened to Hannah by Mary Kay McComas

As a teenager, Hannah Benson ran away from home in order to save herself. Now, twenty years later, the past comes calling and delivers life-changing news: her mother and sister have passed away, leaving Hannah the guardian of her fifteen-year-old niece.

Returning home to bitter memories and devastating secrets, Hannah must overcome her painful past to pave a future with her niece, the last best chance at a family for both of them. She begins to create a new, happier life with her niece and rekindles a relationship with Grady Steadman, one of the few people she’s ever called a friend.

But she can’t forget what she cannot forgive, or lay to rest those ghosts that will not die. Will love and trust—and the truth—give her the strength to stand her ground and fight for what she deserves?

This novel is unbelievable!  Hannah is one of the most interesting characters I have every "met".  She wasn't dealt an easy hand at life but when push comes to shove, she is someone you would like to have in your corner.  Mary Kay McComas never lets her readers down.  I'm so glad that I read What Happened To Hannah and there aren't enough words to express how amazing it is.  Read it for yourself and find out why she is one of my favorite authors.

For The Love Of Books #Giveaway: The Bone Yard by Jefferson Bass

The onset of summer brings predictably steamy weather to the Body Farm, Dr. Bill Brockton's human-decomposition research facility at the University of Tennessee. But Brockton's about to get more heat than he's bargained for when Angie St. Claire, a forensic analyst with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, asks him to help prove that her sister's death was not suicide, but murder.

Brockton's quick consulting trip takes a long, harrowing detour when bones begin turning up amid the pines and live oaks of the Florida panhandle. Two adolescent skulls–ravaged by time and animals, but bearing the telltale signs of lethal fractures–send Brockton, Angie, and Special Agent Stu Vickery on a search for the long-lost victims. The quest leads them to the ruins of the North Florida Boys' Reformatory, a notorious juvenile detention facility that met a fiery end more than forty years ago.

Guided by the discovery of a diary kept by one of the school's young "students," Brockton's team finds a cluster of shallow graves, all of them containing the bones of boys who suffered violent deaths. The graves confirm one of the diary's grim claims: that one wrong move could land a boy in the Bone Yard. But as the investigation expands, it encounters opposition from the local sheriff, who's less than delighted to find forensic experts from the state capital and the Body Farm digging up dirt in his county.

As Brockton and his team close in on the truth, they find skeletons in some surprisingly prominent closets . . . and they learn that the ghosts of the past pose perilous consequences in the present.

For The Love Of Books #Giveaway: Sanctus by Simon Toyne

One man’s sacrifice shocks the world . . .

One woman’s courage threatens a conspiracy as old as humankind . . .

And some will do anything—anything—to keep their secrets in the dark.

A man climbs a cliff face in the oldest inhabited place on earth, a mountain known as the Citadel, a Vatican-like city-state that towers above the city of Ruin in modern-day Turkey. But this is no ordinary ascent. It is a dangerous, symbolic act. And thanks to the media, it is an event witnessed by the entire world.

Few people understand its consequence. But for foundation worker Kathryn Mann and a handful of others, it’s evidence that a revolution is at hand. For the Sancti, the cowled and secretive monks who live inside the Citadel, it could mean the end of everything they have built. They will stop at nothing to keep what is theirs, and they will break every law in every country and even kill to hold it fast. For American reporter Liv Adamsen, it spurs the memory of the beloved brother she lost years before, setting her on a journey across the world and into the heart of her own identity.

There, she will make a discovery so shocking that it will change everything. . . .

Review: Affairs of Steak by Julie Hyzy

White House chef Olivia Paras and her arch nemesis, White House Sensitivity Director Peter Everett Sargeant, must work together to solve the double murder of one of the First Lady's assistants and the Chief of Staff-before they become the next victims of a merciless assassin with a secret agenda.

I like to read different genres depending on what type of mood I am in.  I read Affairs of Steak when I was in the mood to find out whodunnit.  One thing I didn't really count on was how hungry reading this book would make me!  There are recipes included that I am looking forward to making.  As far as the book goes, it is a very well written, interesting mystery.  The author has an amazing talent for enticing readers and not letting go.  I highly recommend this book.

Review: Folly Beach by Dorothea Benton Frank

Folly Beach, South Carolina, with its glistening beaches, laid-back Southern charm, and enticing Gullah tradition, is the land of Cate Cooper’s childhood, the place where all the ghosts of her past roam freely. Now, thanks to a newly deceased husband whose financial and emotional perfidy has left her homeless and broke, she’s returning to this lovely strip of coast.

Once, another woman found comfort here: an artist, writer, and sometime colleague of the revered George Gershwin. With her beloved husband, DuBose, Dorothy Heyward enjoyed the greatest moments of her life at Folly. Though the Heywards are long gone, their passion and spirit linger in every ocean breeze.

To her surprise, Cate is about to discover that you can go home again, for Folly holds the possibility of unexpected fulfillment—not just the memories of the girl she was, but the promise of the woman she’s always wanted to become.

When I read the synopsis of Folly Beach, I through it sounded like a feel-good, lighthearted book.  I felt like it dragged on a bit and it was difficult to get into.  I'm not sure if it's the tone or the story that lacks imagination, but I was disappointed by Dorothea's latest book.
