Fallen Flame by J.M. Miller #bookreview

As a baby, Vala was abandoned.  She was found by Saireen who took her in and raised her as her own. Vala is different.  She has charred skin, and when people touch her, they end up burned.  This affliction causes Vala much heartache.  People treat her differently based on her outward appearance.

Despite her troubles, Vala is a trusted guard to Prince Caulden.  She has proven her skill set time and time again.  Prince Caulden will be meeting a potential bride, Princess Anja, and decides to celebrate by evading Vala's watch and he ends up in trouble.  Her tracking skills serve her well and she is able to locate the prince just in time.  A battle breaks out when a group of men threaten the prince's life.

This is when Vala meets Xavyn.  Xavyn is different from anyone she has ever met.  Upon her interactions with this stranger, she finds that he may be the key to finding out who and what she is.  This question has plagued her for so long.

Xavyn is convinced that the visiting Queen and Princess are after something in the land of Garlin.  Does it have to do with war that ended magic?  Will Vala help Xavyn find answers to his questions in order to learn more about herself?

I get excited every time I start a new book and Fallen Flame was no exception.  I was thrown into Vala’s world and I was thrilled to be there.  The characters have heart, especially Vala. I was able to picture every scene with crystal clear clarity. The author does an excellent job of keeping a reader engaged.I thoroughly enjoyed devouring this book in two days.  I highly recommend it.
